wind and current algebra problems

I think God must have been in a really bad mood decided to come up with something called math to trouble us! I’ve spent days working on this algebra problem which relates to wind and current algebra problems and I still can’t crack it . I’m particularly having problems with y-intercept, converting fractions and perfect square trinomial. Can anyone throw some light on how to go about solving such problems? I’ve tried all ways that I could think of, but none helped. I need some urgent help now. Anybody?

Will you please spell out what is the sort of difficulty you are faced with in wind and current algebra problems? Some more information on this could help to locate ways of solving them. Yes.
